FAQ'S

What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground techniques. It teaches how to use leverage, technique, and body mechanics to control and submit an opponent — making it effective for people of all sizes and strengths.

Do I need any experience to start?

Not at all! Most people start Jiu Jitsu with no background in martial arts. Classes are beginner-friendly and focus on fundamentals. Everyone learns at their own pace, and your instructor and training partners will help guide you along the way.

What should I wear to my first class?

If you don’t have a gi (the traditional Jiu Jitsu uniform) yet, wear comfortable athletic clothes — like a fitted T-shirt or rash guard and shorts or leggings without zippers or pockets. Once you decide to continue training, your instructor can help you find the right gi to purchase.

What’s the difference between Gi and No-Gi Jiu Jitsu?

Gi: Practiced in the traditional uniform, allowing grips on the jacket and pants.

No-Gi: Practiced in athletic wear (rash guard and shorts), focusing on controlling the body rather than the clothing.
Both are great for building skill and understanding different aspects of grappling.

Is Jiu Jitsu safe?

Yes — when practiced under proper instruction and with mutual respect, Jiu Jitsu is very safe. Safety is always a top priority. You’ll learn to “tap out” (signal submission) to prevent injury, and partners are trained to respect that.

Is Jiu Jitsu a good workout?

Absolutely! Jiu Jitsu improves strength, flexibility, endurance, and coordination while burning calories and reducing stress. It’s both physically and mentally engaging — a workout that challenges your body and sharpens your mind.

Can kids train Jiu Jitsu?

Yes! Jiu Jitsu is great for kids. It helps them develop confidence, discipline, focus, and respect for others. Kids also learn valuable self-defense skills in a positive, structured environment.

How often should I train?

Beginners typically start with 2–3 classes per week. As you become more comfortable, you can adjust based on your goals and schedule. Consistency matters more than intensity — steady progress comes from regular training.

What are the belt ranks in Jiu Jitsu?

Adults progress through white, blue, purple, brown, and black belts, while kids move through a separate color system suited for their age. Promotion is based on time, skill development, and dedication — every belt represents growth and perseverance.

Why do people love Jiu Jitsu so much?

Because it’s more than just a martial art — it’s a lifestyle. Students often describe Jiu Jitsu as a community that challenges them, humbles them, and helps them grow in confidence, patience, and self-control. It’s fitness, friendship, and self-improvement all rolled into one.
