Core Jiu Jitsu academy guidelines
Welcome
At Core Jiu Jitsu, we strive to create a safe, respectful, family-friendly environment where everyone can learn, grow, and enjoy the journey of Jiu Jitsu. Whether you’re stepping on the mats for the first time or you’re an experienced competitor, we ask every student to help protect the culture of our academy.
Respect
Treat coaches, teammates, parents, and visitors with kindness and respect.
Leave your ego at the door. We are here to learn, not prove ourselves.
Win with humility. Lose with grace.
Encourage your teammates and celebrate each other’s progress.
Safety First
Tap early. Release immediately when your partner taps.
Train with control. Your goal is to make your teammates better—not injured.
If you are unsure of a technique, ask a coach.
Be aware of the people rolling around you and move when necessary to avoid collisions.
Hygiene
Wear a clean gi or clean no-gi gear every class.
Wash all training gear after every training session, and your belt at least once per week.
Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed.
Wear sandals or shoes off the mats. Never walk barefoot in the restroom and back onto the mats.
Cover any cuts or scrapes before training.
If you have a contagious illness or skin infection, stay home until cleared to return.
Mat Etiquette
Arrive on time whenever possible.
Pay attention while coaches are demonstrating techniques.
Keep conversations to a minimum during instruction.
Help keep the academy clean before leaving.
Training Expectations
Be coachable.
Focus on learning rather than “winning” in the training room.
Roll with partners of all ages, sizes, and experience levels respectfully.
Higher belts should help newer students learn.
Newer students should ask questions and be willing to learn.
Kids Program Expectations
Listen the first time a coach gives instructions.
Encourage teammates instead of making fun of mistakes.
Show good sportsmanship at all times.
Parents are asked to support our academy by allowing only the coaches to instruct our students.
Competition Team
Competing is optional, not required. Every student is valued equally whether they compete or train for fitness, self-defense, or personal growth. If you choose to compete:
Represent Core Jiu Jitsu with humility and integrity.
Support your teammates.
Respect referees, opponents, and tournament staff.
